Student Life is a campus-wide student service providing inclusive and innovative programs and resources to holistically support UCSF students. We are invested in reciprocal partnerships to enhance the student experience and their success through four pillars: community, advocacy, access and inclusion, and data informed decision making.

Student Life builds community.

  1. We bridge connections amongst students across academic programs through assorted welcome events, socials, and celebrations.
  2. We foster community amongst first generation students as well as veteran and military affiliates through mentoring programs, workshops, socials, and other community-building events.
  3. Over 150+ student Registered Campus Organizations (RCOs) register with us and plan thousands of events for the campus community.
  4. Through the weekly student newspaper, Synapse, the Student Weekly Email, and daily social media posts, we engage and inform students of the student experience, services, and resources.
  5. We lead integrated orientation presentations introducing students to all central student services.

Student Life staff are student centered advocates.

  1. We serve on campus and system wide committees and tasks forces to represent and advocate on behalf of UCSF students.
  2. Through student, faculty, staff trainings, individual consultations, and group facilitations, we are committed to serving, informing, and supporting students and their holistic success.
  3. We collaborate with campus partners when students encounter crisis or challenging situations.
  4. We actively engage in higher education best practices and policy review and reform to ensure programs and services are inclusive and responsive to our current students.

Student Life is dedicated to access and inclusion.

  1. We serve, support, and empower students with disabilities by ensuring equitable access to fully participate in all areas of the university experience.
  2. Grounded in diversity, equity and inclusion practices, our staff actively engages in diversity education and dialogue, and models the way through pronoun identification, accessible in-person and virtual events, and continuous program and service evaluation.
  3. In order to support our students holistic experience, we provide access to essential resources for student success, including but not limited to: food, housing, accommodations, assistive technology, networking connections, leadership and communication skills development, and guidance on student rights and responsibilities.

Student Life is driven by data and research.

  1. To improve and be innovative with our services, we perform annual program statistics and evaluations, evaluate event attendance, and continuously review various program and virtual engagement utilization.
  2. We spearhead a cross-campus collaboration to administer the biennial Student Services Survey and support the annual program review of the Student Services Fee.
